Hail

The Mr. had gotten off work, and after a quick jaunt over to the grocery store, we were planning on going to the pool since it was pretty close to 100* at 5:00 pm yesterday.  Our plans were foiled, even though we already had our suits on, as big raindrops began to fall. :( 

It hailed two times, each for about five minutes or so.  It rained a LOT and it was fairly windy, but there wasn't any damage to the cars.. I should have reached for my camera, but didn't know where it was yesterday.

It had been hot and sunny all day long, and the online forecast showed nothing besides clear skies. This storm must have been a "blip" on the radar that went unnoticed. I'm really glad we didn't go to the pool because we would have been pelted with marble-sized ice chunks!  {I'm kind of wondering if the people who were already at the pool got hit by hail or not...it happened pretty quick!} 

Other than that, the Mr. has been very helpful with supper-making and cleanup while I cram in some more study time so I'm very thankful to him for that. One pop-quiz was yesterday, and another quiz is tomorrow.  This class is going fast...3 weeks in and I'm 75% done, holy cow!

Busy weekend!

Phew!  Our Friday went like this:

9:00 Leave for the north DMV
9:30 -10:10 DMV stuff {holy cow, we were not expecting it to go this fast! 40 minutes here vs. 4 hours at the other place!!}
10:10-2:00 We had to take the car to get inspected, then the mechanic fixed the car, and reinspected it so it would pass.  We paid a bunch for it and in the meantime we ate lunch {sushi} and browsed around the nearby mall.
2:00 - Left the DMV/mechanic/mall area for campus
2:30-3:00 I got my picture for my new student ID card, got the campus parking sticker for my car, and bought books. That also set us back a few bucks.

We had a little downtime to have a smoothie and relax before heading out again.

4:30 Left for some organized bowling. I'm pretty sure we drove through some ghettos, and made it there late, but alive. GoogleMaps estimates of driving times through cities is about half of what it actually is. Ugh.
5:10 BOWLING!  We bowled and the Mr. scored 147 then 145.  I bowled 109 and 112.  We bowled until
7:30 left the bowling alley, taking a different way back, making much better time than before
8:00 got back to the apartment
8:15 headed out to the movie theater to meet up with another couple to catch the
9:10  showing of THOR. I thought it was a pretty fantastic movie. It lasted until
11:10 at which point we drove back and basically fell straight asleep!

I've gotten so used to going to bed around 9, that I was honestly surprised that I stayed awake after such a busy day.  I even kind of tripped on the escalator since I am so nimble on my feet {har har har}.

On Saturday and Sunday we did more necessary paperwork and chores.  Today we went on a walk through a protected forest area, and that was pretty interesting.  We also planted some seeds, so hopefully those will turn out well!

Stove Hint

Warning!: This isn't too terribly exciting, but for those of you who are curious what we're up to, have at it!
I figured I'd share this gem of a secret that I discovered two nights ago while making supper with the Mr.

So, the Mr. was cutting tomatoes and grating zucchini while I began with the other half of the process.  I eyeballed some oil into the skillet and put it on the stove's burner to heat up, turning it to medium-high.  After about three or four minutes, I decided it was hot enough and could put in the bag of frozen veggies. It should have taken about 8 minutes, at that point, but the broccoli was still frozen.  I  tossed in the next ingredient anyway, and waited a little longer. I mentioned to the Mr. that it was still cold, and that I figured it would just be awhile longer till we'd eat.

WRONG!

He solved the problem for me: I had picked the wrong burner's dial to turn on, so the skillet was just sitting on a cold burner the entire time (about 20 min at that point).  Instead, another burner we weren't using was pretty hot.

At that point, we were able to begin cooking our food "for real".  I am wondering how long it would have taken me to figure that out if I had been cooking by myself.  Oy!!  Nothing ground breaking or catastrophic... At least it was just veggies and precooked chicken, and it all got up to temperature eventually; it just took a little longer than expected.

So there is your lovely kitchen hint from me - if your food ever seems to take just a litttttle too long heating up and your stove is in decent condition, check the dial! =]
